Atman

A small first-person game about Advaita Vedanta, the teaching that the self is the absolute and that liberation is a recognition, not a reward. Do the chores in a river village, see a snake on the path at dusk turn out to be a rope by lamplight, throw and name pots that a clay lens shows are all clay, and read a codex of cited verses in Devanagari, IAST and English, with how other schools read them. Nothing is scored. Built on the Strata engine.

How to play

Click the game to take the mouse, then move the mouse to look, W A S D to walk and Shift to hurry. E uses what is here (fill the water jar, give the water, dig clay, drink, eat, sleep), F lights the lamp, 1 to 4 at the potter's wheel throw a pot (then type its name and press Enter), B breaks the pot you look at, C is the clay lens after three pots, Tab opens the codex, V steps out to watch in the after-mode, M turns the sound off or on, and Esc frees the mouse. The NEXT line in the HUD says what comes next. On a phone or tablet, drag on the left half to walk and on the right half to look, and use the buttons for Use, Lamp, Break, Lens, the wheel, the codex and the sound. The game saves in this browser every two minutes, on Save and when you leave, and continues where you left off. Windows and Linux downloads are on the releases page.
